#VIDEOCREATIONSERIES# 4
ANIMATIONS OR TRANSITIONS?
Transitions are those effects that take place when you move from one slide to the other while animations are the effects applied to objects in your slides- text boxes, pictures, lines, etc.
Educators love using them so much. This is because they breathe life into your slides and by extension, your videos.
Animations and transitions may seem like the most important features of an effective lesson design, I'd like to say that no amount of transitions or animations will save a poorly prepared lesson.
Animations can support learning or prevent it. How so?
I have seen a lot of videos with so many animations or transitions. Each slide with a different transition effect.
When you OVERLOAD your work with animations and transitions, your students get distracted. Using a lot of transitions and animations doesn't make you an expert.
One aim of effective design is to capture the interest of your students who will in turn pay attention, understand and learning is achieved.
Animations can help you achieve this if used properly.
TIPS FOR USING ANIMATIONS AND TRANSITIONS
1. Audience: think about your audience. The age of your audience will determine what to use. So "place yourself in the shoes" of your students.
2. Objectives: think about what you hope to achieve with the animation.
3. Use animations sparingly.
4. Be consistent especially with transitions. It's not wrong to use the same transitions in all your slides.
5. Avoid transitions that will distract your students.
USE ANIMATIONS AND TRANSITIONS WISELY.
